This project involved the design of a custom guest house and garage for a coastal property in the Caribbean. The ground floor features a wide open-span garage, designed without interior columns to maximize usable space and provide flexibility for future use.
Given the region’s exposure to hurricanes, special attention was given to strengthening the structure. The design included reinforced masonry walls and wood framing with enhanced tie-down detailing to ensure safety and resilience during high-wind events.
A standout feature of the project is the custom aluminum balcony system. Engineered specifically for this home, the balcony was designed in modular pieces to allow for easy shipping and on-site assembly with minimal tools—reducing complexity and construction time on the island.
Material selection was tailored to suit local availability and climate demands, ensuring both durability and practicality. The end result is a strong, functional, and elegant space ready to withstand the elements.
